About
I’m Stephanie. I grew up in New Hampshire and now live in Massachusetts.
I have degrees in English. Think long and hard before you do the same.
I recently married M. He is a fun friend and highly likeable person. Marrying him = good decision. We bought a house this year and have been learning how to do things with tools.
I am 30. Even though in my mind I had been 30 for a couple years already. It feels good to make it official.
I am interested in names. Particularly names that people give their babies. I am willing to help you name your baby.
My love for Jane Austen knows no bounds. You may think that loving Jane Austen is a cliche. It’s not.
I work in communications. Isn’t that vague? I work in a cubicle and don’t have face to face interactions very often during my workdays. This isn’t a bad thing.
I was a high school English teacher for a couple of years. Which I now think of as “that time I got sidetracked.”
There are people I love a whole lot and I feel general good will towards pretty much everyone, but I really really love spending time alone.
I started this blog when work was slow and I was desperately needing an outlet to do some writing. Blogging is the easiest, dumbest, greatest, most immediately gratifying type of writing on earth. I post things for my friends and family and my own self, but it’s fun when others occasionally stop by.
I have a lot of strong feelings about oranges. Nutrition is an interest of mine. I like to read and learn about it and I try to eat heathfully, but also I often don’t.
I think I’m quite perceptive about other people. But the funny thing is, I often feel that I have no idea how other people are perceiving me.
I love awards shows and movies, although I’m starting to think I love movies more in theory than in reality since I don’t actually watch them that often. I read movie reviews every Friday.
I read Prudie’s advice column on Slate every Thursday. It’s part of my religion. I would really like to be an advice columnist actually. I think I would be good at it! Tell me your problems and I’ll try it out.
I’m a dog person. I don’t have a dog, and I’m allergic to dogs, but someday a dog will be mine.
I love new music but get tired of most music pretty quickly. New music recommendations are always welcome.
I have a super low emotional threshold for scary/violent/sad things. I have to close my eyes or cry. Although, incidentally, a good cry can be an excellent thing.
I am frankly kind of neurotic but I hide it pretty well.
My favorite hour of the week right now is Mad Men Sunday nights while reading Mad Men tweets during commercial breaks. Best way to experience the best show.
I used to buy new clothes a little too often and then feel guilty. Now I buy stuff from sephora.com a little too often and then feel guilty.

I found your blog during a Jon Hamm google image search. Yours was actually the first one. Nicely done. I read some of your posts and added your blog to my favourites* even though I don’t know you or your M. Hope that’s not too creepy. I enjoy your humour* and your writing.
* Canadian spellings. I really am a good speller

I feel like I know you so much better now. Your writing still ranks up there for me —- up there with Maeve Binchy, Berg, and Jhumpa Lahiri. You rock, my badass best friend.

You can string together a group of sentences that aren’t retarded and don’t bore me to sleep. That makes you special!
Also, you are a rad twitterer.

High praise! Comment hall of fame…In fact I’m going to immediately go add to my resume:
- Can string together non-retarded sentences
- Is a rad twitterer.
